Will Champion was born on July 31, 1978 in Hampshire, England. He studied Anthropology at University College in London and worked as a bouncer in a bar before joining Coldplay.

His musical interests include traditional Irish folk songs and the music of Tom Waits. He can play guitar, bass guitar and piano, but plays drums for Coldplay. Prior to his role in the band, he had never played drums before.
